An Updated Mid-Century Floor Plan

modernizing but trying to remain true

We have finally tweeked the floor plan and are finished.  This has been hard for us as our intent has always been to stay true to the original Eichler home - but even die-hard Eichler fans admit that the kitchens and bathrooms in the original houses were not that welcoming.
Some of the changes that we wrangled over.  In the original floorplan there was no powder room.  As a powder room is now a standard, we felt that we had to add it.  We also moved the front entry toward the garage, this change was due to site considerations, there is a steep hill behind the house, we felt that shortening the walkway was necessary due to the proximity of the slate hill.
We are excited about the changes to the master bedroom, we don't even feel that guilty about it.  We made the master bathroom awesome and added some huge glass panels to make it a place of relaxation, the view from this bathroom goes for miles over the mountains.
We were also liberal with adding more windows, two in the bedrooms had be made larger than Eichler's just due to building codes relating to fire escapes.  We also added an great glass panel at the end of the hallway, we turned what could have been a dark hall into a very exciting walkway into nature.
Any deviation off of Eichler's floorpan we took serious, ultimate modern building codes directed some of the changes and modern convinces the other changes, and some we just wanted more exposure to nature.
